I have been thinking about migrating to own server. The beauty is, I can stream audio clip, own slide show, house my own video. Now video comes from youtube, slide show cannot do, audio slip need to be hosted elsewhere and use 1-pixel to run.
I have run it before when ISP connection was poor last time.
Another thing, the upload speed is very fast because the server sits in next room.

It’s a charming idea, so long as people have the routine to run their own server. If I did, it would probably be down most of the time.
Anyway, as I’m running no videos, the space left on wordpress is huge for my blog – so I’ll leave it to them to keep it all clean, unhacked, and running.

Yes, it does come with some price to pay, I have an idle desktop, I built them into Ubuntu server and run it as RAID1, it holds wordpress before. The system needs constant patching & housekeeping too.
I am not renting any server space from the Hi-Rel, I used DDNS IP forwarding to my DHCP ADSL, there is script that update the ever changing IP.
Yup, need some effort and knowledge.

I am using a normal ADSL,in Malaysia, the cheapest package, yup, at times, slower download speed to. I also used DDNS to forward my IP to a DNS lookup, so you can always find my woodyooi.. something without having to keep changing IP address.
I have to pay electricity bill on the server/modem/router.
Maybe it will cheaper to just rent a server space.
